You know, it’s amazing what you take away from training events. In March of 2018, I had the pleasure of sitting in a class put on Christopher Suarez in Vegas about expansion. I thought I was there for real estate education. I later learned that it was more about “life” education. (see video and blogs below).
I’ve decided not to delay my happiness.Lori Ballen
That day, I heard Chris tell a story about his parents and how they delayed their happiness.
Later that year, I traveled to hear Ben Kinney and Christopher Saurez put on a class together. I thought I was going to learn about wealth building. And while I enjoyed all of the takeaways, it was actually Chris telling the story again about his parents that I took away.
I had to hear it twice to have it sink in and take action.
Chris shared that After he was grown and married with kids and financially stable, he invited his parents to Spain and they declined based on issues from being older and having surgeries. Chris decided then that this was unacceptable.
He didn’t want to work his whole life for retirement just to discover that he couldn’t enjoy life once he retired.
He then set out to find how to live before it was too late to do so.
This hit home with me. Suddenly, I decided that while having savings gives us security, and of course, we want to have the ability to retire properly, life is happening NOW!
I decided that chasing the dollar for the future in a way that would cause me angst wasn’t worth it. I wanted to live for today. I wanted to enjoy EVERY day.
If I’m at home, I want it to be a place I love to be. I want it calm and peaceful and I want to enjoy being there!
If I want to take a vacation or go to an education event, EVEN if it goes on a credit card, I’m going. I’m alive today.
No, I’m not endorsing going into debt as much as I am saying enjoy life, today. I believe in knowing how something is going to be paid for first.
I made some businesses decisions this year that would allow me more freedom and less stress.
They also meant a change in my finances, at least for the moment.
And that’s a trade-off I was willing to make because life just matters too much.
I don’t want to trade time for money. I want to create things today that will bring in passive income later. And I want them to be activities that bring me joy.
I want to do the work that while I’m doing, I catch myself smiling.
[LOVE when that happens].
I realized that having employees was one of my largest stress points and triggers, so I made my family owners and partners and let go of my “employees”.
I’ve committed to more time this year pursuing my love of genealogy and travel.
Whether comfy at home in my pajamas with my cat while working on my businesses and website, or reading a book by the pool, or building my family tree, or learning a new skill, or traveling with friends and family,
I’ve decided not to delay my happiness.
At nearly 48 years old, While securing for tomorrow, I’m living for today.
